Who can travel through China without a visa in 144 hours? 

There are two main prerequisites: nationality and ticket type.

1. Citizens of the following 53 countries

Americans (of 6 countries): United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and the Republic of Chile

European citizens (of 39 countries): Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden,

Switzerland, Russia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Belarus, and Monaco

Oceanians (of 2 countries): Australia and New Zealand

Asians (of 6 countries): South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar

2. Passengers with combined tickets for transit from China to a third country or region

For example, USA - China - Thailand, which means that China can't be your final destination, but a stopover on your journey.

How are the 144 hours calculated?

Counting starts at 00:00 on the day after your arrival. For example, if your flight arrives in Beijing at 14:00 on October 1, but the count does not start until 00:00 on October 2. You may have more hours for sightseeing in China until the last second of 23:59 on October 7. However, if there is any delay in your departure time to the next country, an extension is required.

What to prepare before entering China?

  • Have your onward ticket to the next country
  • Fill in your arrival and departure cards
  • Obtain your visa for the next country or region
  • Make sure your passports with a validity of at least 6 months

Which city can you travel to?

The 20 cities have implemented a 144-hour visa-free policy: Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Qinhuangdao, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shenyang, Dalian, Qingdao, Chengdu, Xiamen, Kunming, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Jieyang, Chongqing, Xi'an and Ningbo.

These include inland cities with many attractions to see, as well as some famous coastal cities. However, it should be noted that in most cases, this 144-hour visa-free policy only applies to sightseeing within a single city, especially if you choose to land in an inland city.
